Brooke Burke-Charvet is making good on her promise to raise awareness about thyroid cancer.
The 41-year-old model and television star sat down with Katie Couric for a segment on the anchor's new daytime chat show on Wednesday, and revealed she brushed off her doctor's initial warnings about the mass in her throat.
Covering the inch-long scar from the December 6 operation in a black turtleneck, she said: 'I sort of went, "Oh, okay. I'm gonna call you next week." And the doctor said, "No, no, no Brooke. You need to have a thyroidectomy done and you need to schedule this."'

Speaking out: Brooke Burke-Charvet talked about undergoing a thyroidectomy on ABC's Katie on Wednesday
'My doctor felt a very questionable, tiny little lump,' she explained. 'He said to get an ultrasound, and I got an ultrasound, and then they suggested a biopsy. I had my first biopsy and my results came back atypical... they couldn't confirm whether it was cancer or not.'
Brooke pushed forward to get further testing and had seven biopsies conducted on the mass.
'Three days later I got the call from the doctor, who said, "Yeah, you have 75 percent positive for cancer and you need to have a thyroidectomy,"' she said.
