Add a pop of colour to your peepers with the FEMAIL guide to coloured smokey eyes

The smokey eyes look is a make-up classic. Use colour in place of greys for a fresh, modern interpretation.

1. Cover the lid with a light, vibrant eyeshadow. Lilac suits most, but you could also experiment with a gold or turquoise

2. Line your eyes with a soft bright blue pencil, top and bottom (try Mac Pro Longwear eye liner, £16.50). Smudge outwards using fingertips

3. Line the waterline and top lashes with a thin rim of black eyeliner

4. Curl eyelashes, then apply several coats of black mascara for an eye‑opening effect

5. A look this dramatic doesn’t need much else, so keep it simple with a slick of lipgloss and blusher
