Whitney Port has paid tribute to 'greatest' father in the world Jeffery Port, 62, who died of kidney cancer a little over a week ago.
The 28-year-old notified her fans of his passing on Wednesday in a heartfelt open letter.
The fashion designer shared on her blog a touching eulogy - composed as a letter to her father - from his funeral service.

The Hills star explained that her beloved parent Jeffery Port had 'passed away...losing his battle to Kidney Cancer.

'He fought hard for a year and did everything in his power to overcome this terrible disease, but as we all know, sometimes the power of the disease cannot be fought fairly.'

The former Teen Vogue contributor provided links to the Kidney Cancer Association with the 'hope that this education can help in putting a stop to what my father endured.'

In her heartfelt elegiac letter Whitney wrote: 'in your absence I know I must use your 28 years of fatherhood to protect, guide and lead in the only way I know best – the way you taught me. Be honorable, be kind, be noble, be just, be silly, be tenacious, be a champion.'

And the young lady lived up to those words of promise on a sun-filled Thursday in Los Angeles, as she made herself a source of comfort to her mother.

The City star spent the day with her mother, Vicki Lyn Port, engaged in self-care pampering at the salon.

It appeared that the two were hard at work deciding upon what to do with Vicki Lyn's thick and luxurious locks.

At one point her mother held up a large hand mirror while her daughter stood on the sideline offering advice.

Whitney was dressed in all-black clothing for the day with the exception of a few well-placed spots of color.

The reality star's strappy sandals sported bright multicolored flowers while her black high-waisted shorts discreetly displayed a widely-spaced floral design.

Accompanying these hints of spring were a large wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a dark knit jumper.

The Los Angeles native initially found fame as a reality star on The Hills which earned her the spin-off MTV show The City.
In recent years she has created a successful career as a fashion designer.
Many of her previous designs demonstrated the very qualities of both whimsicality and courageousness that Whitney cited as character traits instilled within her by her late father.

While in mourning Whitney still managed to end her posthumous tribute on a hopeful note.
She wrote quite movingly: 'May you struggle no longer, may your mind find clarity and peace, may you play golf at your best and drive wherever you please.'

And in closing she made another promise: 'Until the day we meet again, our family will not be complete. But know we will thrive forever in your honor and live to make you smile.'
