Glammed up Jessica Chastain and Hugh Jackman put their Oscars rivalry aside for a joint appearance on the Jay Leno show

Their films are both nominated in the hotly contested Best Picture category at the Academy Awards later this month.
But Hugh Jackman and Jessica Chastain put their Oscar rivalry aside on Monday as they made a joint appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Having earlier attended the Oscar nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills where they stood next to each other in the official photograph, both stars hot footed it across town for a relaxed talk show appearance.

Although she was also nominated last year for The Help, Jessica revealed she was unable to make the 2012 luncheon due to rehearsing Zero Dark Thirty in Jordan.
This year, she looked stunning in a blue and pink floral dress and nude shoes, before swapping for  a simple strappy chocolate brown frock for her appearance on Leno.
'It was a special moment this afternoon when they called my name and I went up - it's like a class graduation,' she recalled to to the talk show host. 'Hugh helped me up the stairs and I got to stand by him in the picture.'

'She gave me some great advice actually,' added Hugh. 'Because I was standing next to the Oscar statuette, standing there for about three minutes, I said "Jessica, it's taking all my willpower not to put the bunny ears on the Oscar."
'And she said: "That's hilarious. Don't do it."
Hugh has been nominated for Best Actor for his role of  ex-convict Jean Valjean in the musical adaptation of Les Miserables, while Jessica got a Best Actress nod for playing CIA officer Maya in Zero Dark Thirty.

Although her breakthrough role came in last year's hit drama The Help, Jessica has already acted alongside Al Pacino for film Wilde Salomé and told Leno she considers the star her 'acting godfather.'
She recalled: 'He's super intense. I learned so much. But he did tell me on my first day on set while I was hoarding all this food at the craft service table - Al says to me: "Jessica I've got a piece of advice for you."  So I'm thinking - "Here it comes - the best piece of advice from the greatest living actor - what is it?"
'And he says: "Never eat anything off the craft service table."

Sticky audition: Hugh described his audition for Les Miserables ended up a little sweaty after he had his bike stolen in New York City

Bring it on: Hugh is a first time Oscar nominee, while Jessica has received her second nomination

Meanwhile, Hugh was busy recalling his near-disastrous audition in New York City for Les Miserables character Jean Valjean where he ended up having the wheels of his bicycle stolen shortly before he was due to sing for director Tom Hooper.
'The frame was there but the wheels had gone,' he remembered. 'I was like "no!" I've got the frame of my bike, I've got 20 blocks and 15 minutes to get there.

'I literally ran with my bike on my shoulder as I can't put it in a cab. I get to the thing, I ran up the stairs out of breath say: "Hey I'm Hugh Jackman, Jean Valjean," Gravitas, I'm ready let's go.'

Outside chance: Hugh is up against hot favourite Daniel Day Lewis in the Best Actor category

He added: 'I put the frame of my bike in the room and felt like I'd literally fell out of drama school.'
The star then revealed he sang for 'three hours' during a four hour audition which tired him out.
'I never in my life asked to leave an audition before,' he laughed. 'I was like "Tom, it's eight o'clock. I have to put my kids to bed. I'm going."'
