Tyson Fury will fight former cruiserweight world champion Steve Cunningham at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 20.
The winner will earn themselves a final eliminator for the right to face IBF heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.
Fury maintained his unbeaten record with a straightforward points win over Kevin Johnson in Belfast last December.
Plans: Tyson Fury (left) will hope to take a step closer to a world title fight
The 24-year-old has long had ambitions to make his US debut and is looking forward to facing his 36-year-old opponent at the Garden's Theatre.
'Cunningham's got all the tools; a former world champion, good fighter, he's got a lot of skill,' he said,
'I'm looking to put on a devastating performance; the best of my career to date.
'I'm absolutely ecstatic to be fighting at Madison Square Garden; it goes back in history and I can't wait to put my name with a long list of champions who have fought there.
'I'm a historian of boxing myself so this is definitely the pinnacle of my career so far.'
Test: Steve Cunningham (right) is a former cruiserweight world champion
He was most recently in action in December when he lost a contentious split decision to Tomasz Adamek.
And he warned Fury that he is in for a difficult night.
'I'm looking forward to getting back in the ring on April 20th to face Fury,' Cunningham said.
'For the first time in my career I have a guy coming to my country to face me. I am certain he’s never faced a fighter like me.
'What an amazing opportunity to fight in historic Madison Square Garden and return to NBC again. I am prepared to fight a great fight and come out with a victory.'
